Now in it’s 11th consecutive year, ‘Stars on Lake Orta’ celebrates five of Piedmont Italy’s Best Chefs. Each Chef prepares a gourmet dinner that benefits local charities.
The organizer Le Stelle sul Lago d’Orta Onlus works with Comunitá di Saint’Egidio, a local Catholic charity in the region to assist the homeless in the Lake Orta communities. I had the pleasure to attend the event in 2014 with The American Academy of Hospitality Sciences.
The Chef Team
The head chef of ‘Stars on Lake Orta’ is always Antonino Cannavacciuolo. His 2 Star Michelin restaurant in the magnificent Villa Crespi hotel is world-reknown. Antonino is also the celebrity Chef of the TV show Kitchen Nightmares, in Italy. Villa Crespi is located directly on Lake Maggiore and is decorated in the style of a lavish Moorish palace.
In 2014 the chef team consisted of the follwing: Marco Sacco, of 2 Star Michelin Piccolo Lago, Marta Grassi of 1 Star Michelin Ristorante Tantris, duo Fabio Pisani and Alessandro Negrini, the Chefs of Luogo di Aimo e Nadia, a 2 Star Michelin restaurant in Milan and the newest starred chef in the region, Massimiliano Celeste, of 1 star Michelin Il Portale.
The event takes place at Hotel L’Approdo, which is just down the road from Villa Crespi. It begins with a cocktail hour followed by a multi-course gourmet meal served in the ballroom of the hotel. Dozens of different local cheeses are to be tasted along with delicious canapes and a selection of regionally cured meats.

The AAHS awarded Le Stelle sul Lago d’Orta Onlus, the charity that hosted the event with a Five Star Diamond Award. The award honored their deep and committed community involvement. Students from a local hospitality school volunteered to assist with the service.
